  1. I would like Santangelo but not Carpenter, although Tracee Ward made a good point that it is important to settle on a team and allow them to build a working rapport. I guess I have just never warmed to Carpenter’s calls, from See You Later to “severe jammage” and the like.

    +1/2St.

  2. Thanks 1/2 St… I was not a big fan of Carpenter in his first season here (I wanted Charlie Slowes to get the job) but I have warmed to him over the past couple seasons and enjoy his rhythm now. Not to mention Mrs. NatsGM met Bob a few weeks ago and said he was one of the nicer people she has met, so I am hoping they keep Bob and F.P. together next year.

  3. Keep them both. They started hitting on all cylinders 1/2 way thru the season. I’m also sick of the idiots that are calling the home announcers “Homers”. They are “HOME” announcers. This isn’t ESPN. I’m sorry if your Orioles feelings get hurt. Angelos should stop holding the Nats hostage. The Skins let Baltimore get the Browns so release the Nats from financial bondage.

  4. Seems to me that unlike Knight or Dibble Sant’Angelo is so knowledgeable about the game he seems at times to intimidate (or is that too strong a word) Carpenter? I think both are good … Sant’Angelo ought to be managing/teaching somewhere not in the booth. In any case where F.P. has become more and more comfortable Carpy seems less so? I like F.P. especially when he defended Nats fans against the verdamnt Orioles fans who are too often favored in the evil MASN network and empire.

Pete Kerzel is a hated, old-school Brooksy/Got Milk Bird fan and he runs the show for both sides as far as beat and blog coverage are concerned. “Moonie” Goessling is also an example of this.

At the very least they should keep F.P. he’s a true gem. But one wonders if he will stay?

  5. @Peric…

I think you make a great point, F.P. would make a fantastic A-ball manager as he has a great knowledge of the game, a solid temperament to teach, and is still young enough to relate to the players. That being said, the gig with MASN is probably easier and I would imagine pays better as well. As I have said previously, I hope MASN keeps them both.

  6. Ryan: The poll was probably too “black or white”; A questionaire with 1) keep both, 2) keep Carpenter / sack F.P., 3) keep F.P., sack Carpenter, or 4) sack both could have yielded a clearer picure, given enough exposure.

  7. @John… I agree, I like them both as well and hope they return-

@BinM… I did the “black or white” idea on purpose to make the results fairly clear. Perhaps tomorrow I will make a poll in the manner you described, if you don’t mind… Good suggestion, thanks!

  8. Santangelo’s English language skills are atrocious. His knowledge of baseball extends back no more than 10 years. He has an annoying habit of repeating (and repeating) some of the lamest observations. One particular annoyance (among many) is his insistence that any pitch hit for a homerun was a “mistake” by the pitcher. Don’t batters get any credit in the equation? I generally turn the sound off and just watch the picture (with or without radio coverage playing in the room).

  9. I do not enjoy the game they do. I would sooner mute the sound than listen. It seems we are not watching the same game.
I’d prefer the announcers to be guys you’d enjoy watching the game with. I get to see a lot of announcers and if these guys were in my home I would not invite them back again and at times I think I would ask them to leave.
FP shows game knowledge where as Carpenter shows none.

  10. I don’t mind Carpenter, but when FP starts droning on and on and on and on and on, I hit the mute button! How many times do we have to hear “sitting dead red”, “what I mean by that is”, there goes the no hitter”. He talks when it is preferable to watch the game. No dead air allowed apparently. I miss Dibble, at least he was funny!
