Last week with their first of two 1st round selections, the Washington Nationals picked Georgia high school hitter Carter Kieboom, who according to reports quickly agreed to terms on a contract. After the pick was announced, I reached out to several smart baseball guys to ask their opinion on Kieboom and what type of prospect the Nationals have added to their organization. Fortunately a few were willing to share their thoughts on Carter Kieboom.

Quick fix; the Kiebooms are from Marietta, GA, not South Carolina.
Comments are consistent with scouting reports you read at the normal pundit sites (MLBpipeline, Keith Law, BA). I suspect this was a slight overdraft to enable the Nats to overpay Nuzardo, an opinion supported by his very fast signing. But, still to get him and Dunning and the other guys they got in top 5 is a solid draft.

Plus bat speed and above average raw power now…that should improve as he adds strength. All of his other tools are above average. He’s hit everywhere he’s been on the circuit. What will be really interesting will be whether he can stay at SS (which the Nats Brain trust firmly believe) or will he have to move to 3B (which every scouting service you read insists will happen). It seems there was late buzz (in last month) on him being good enough to stick at shortstop for at least a few years
He’s a quality pick regardless, granted maybe a slight overdraft as a 3B…(debatable), but If he is able to stay at SS, him falling to # 27 with his hit tool could prove to be a steal.
